LusoSpace Announces Satellite Launch in October

Co-promoter:

LusoSpace, leader of one of the working groups of the New Space Portugal Agenda, presented today the PoSAT-2 nanosatellite, the first of 12 satellites that will form the future VDES Constellation. The choice of the name for this first satellite aims to pay homage to PoSAT-1, the first Portuguese satellite launched into space in 1993, a project in which LusoSpace's CEO, Ivo Yves Vieira, was a key team member.

Scheduled for launch in October aboard the Falcon 9 rocket from the American company SpaceX, PoSAT-2 will be positioned in low Earth orbit, about 500 kilometers above the Earth. This satellite will allow for the reception of data on the location of ships and will feature a new communication system, enabling vessels in the middle of the ocean to receive weather alerts or potential pirate threats and send distress messages.

This launch will mark the first satellite under the New Space Portugal Agenda to go into space, once again confirming the consortium's major goal of contributing to the acceleration of the Portuguese space industry.
