NEW SPACE PORTUGAL took the stage at the 2nd Space Economy Summit, an Economist Impact conference, to position Portugal as a key space hub in Europe, driving innovation through downstream new applications and value-added products and services.
During a fireside chat titled "The Role of New Space Hubs in Catalysing a Thriving Space Economy”, moderated by Alok Jha, Science and Technology Editor at The Economist, NEW SPACE PORTUGAL Executive Director, Emir Sirage, highlighted the flagship Atlantic Constellation initiative. This ambitious project aims to provide near real-time revisit capabilities with sub-metric resolution (VHR), addressing critical markets such as Defence, Security, and Sustainability.
In his remarks, Emir Sirage also emphasised the pressing need for Europe to strengthen its position in the global space race, particularly through increased funding. This would enable countries like Portugal to effectively combine public and private investment dynamics, promoting a flourishing regional space ecosystem of innovation.
The 2nd Space Economy Summit was held at Nova SBE – School of Business and Economics, in Lisbon, and brought together leaders and experts from the global new space economy for two days of discussions. This event was a unique platform for networking, exchanging ideas and sharing best practices, allowing Portugal to showcase its work and explore opportunities for the Portuguese space sector.
Together, we’re driving innovation and collaboration in the new space era, driven by the principle of this summit: Space is for everyone.
