The New Space Portugal consortium kicked off 2024 in the best way possible: by presenting the results of a last intense year of work together and discussing the future of the national space sector, at the 1st General Meeting of this Agenda, whose main objective is to transform the space industry in Portugal and positioning the country as a 'flying nation'.
The General Assembly took place on January 17 at the premises of the co-promoter CEiiA, in Matosinhos, bringing together 70 professionals in the same space. The project already involves the participation of around a thousand employees dedicated to realising this ambitious goal: creating several constellations of Earth Observation satellites, developing technological capacity and specialised know-how so that the national space sector can establish itself in the international market.
The day's proceedings were divided into two parts: the morning was dedicated to presentations by the organisations leading each of the work packages, providing updates on the work carried out, the current status, and the objectives to be achieved by 2024. The afternoon was reserved for more operational issues and defining the next steps.
Before starting the agenda, the event began with a presentation by Alexis Conte, managing consultant at Euroconsult, who shared information and knowledge of the current Earth Observation market. Mr. Conte outlined the current world market, putting forward expectations and growth opportunities for the sector. Valuable insights for Portuguese companies at this historic turning point for the Portuguese space sector, thanks to the ambition of the New Space Portugal Agenda.
